Ignore the online hype.

Internet retailing has not had the impact on "bricks and mortar" shopping as predicted in the 1990s. According to a Flight Centre study, 70 per cent of respondents had booked their trip through an agency shop. Less then nine per cent had done so via an airline web site and 2.4 per cent through an agency web site. Flight Centre NZ marketing manager Shane Parlato says online booking is not necessarily simple. He says professionals have the expertise to deal with destinations further afield, extras such as tours, accommodation and car hire, and hidden terms and conditions. He says agents can also offer tips and recommendations that can be difficult or time-consuming to locate on the Internet.
