Celsius, Anders

Celsius, Anders (b. Uppsala, Sweden, 27 November 1701; d. Uppsala, 25 April 1744) Swedish astronomer and physicist, who made extensive studies of the aurora and linked its activity with variations in the Earth's magnetic field. His thermometer, with 100 graduations between the boiling and freezing points of water, subsequently became the basis of the Celsius temperature scale that is now used for all scientific measurements
