Vic: Vandals crash into water main, flood 15 homes
More than 15 houses in Melbourne's outer east have been water damaged after vandalssmashed a valve from one of the city's main water arteries.
Police say vandals deliberately crashed a car through a cage protecting an above-groundvalve at Pipeline Reserve, Mooroolbark about 2am (AEDT), sending a 50 metre gusher intothe air.
The high-pressure flow continued for more than seven hours, flooding two houses inBlaxland Court and damaging the gardens and garages of up to 15 more in neighbouring streets.
Melbourne Water says about 15 million litres of water -- 1.5 per cent of the city'sdaily supply -- was wasted.
A man in his late teens was being questioned over the incident late today.
Melbourne Water civil assets manager ROD CLIFFORD says the damaged pipe will be backin operation tomorrow.
